Compulsory Secondary Education (MYP)

What is the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP)?

Colegio San Cristóbal is authorised to teach the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), aimed at students aged 11 to 16 who are given opportunities to grow and develop into supportive individuals who actively engage in lifelong learning. Through its transdisciplinary, research-based framework, the MYP encourages students to think independently and take responsibility for their own learning while exploring local and global issues and opportunities in real-world contexts.

What do we want?

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) has a number of key objectives:

  • Holistic Development
It strives to develop students in a holistic way, nurturing their academic abilities and their personal and social growth alike.

  • Practical Connections
It encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

  • Intellectual Challenge
It focuses on fostering intellectual growth, preparing students to excel in their future education and throughout their lives.

  • International approach
It seeks to educate young people with an international perspective, aware of their place in the world and committed to global responsibility.
How do we achieve it?

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) achieves its objectives through a number of different approaches and strategies:

  • Rigorous curriculum framework
The MYP consists of eight subject groups that offer a broad and balanced education.

  • Contextual learning
Students learn most effectively when their educational experiences are connected to their own lives and real-world experiences.

  • Global explorations
Students explore global contexts, such as identities and relationships, personal and cultural expression, and globalisation and sustainability, to deepen their understanding of the human condition and their shared responsibilities.

  • Formative and summative assessment
MYP assessment encompasses both formative and summative approaches. Formative assessments provide continuous feedback to support learning, whereas summative assessments evaluate student performance at the end of a unit or course.

  • Personal project
Students are required to undertake a personal project, choosing what they wish to learn and creating a proposal to guide their learning process. This project enables students to delve into a topic of personal interest while honing their research and time-management skills.
