The full IB continuum at one school

We are an IB World School authorised for all three school programmes: the PYP, the MYP and the Diploma Programme.

This means your child can develop a consistent international outlook from the age of 3 to 18, without changing school, breaks in teaching approach or difficult transitions.

How does the IB MYP fit with the Spanish curriculum?

The MYP (Middle Years Programme) does not replace the official curriculum of the Valencian Community; it enriches and strengthens it with a world-class teaching framework.

Two curricula, one programme

Our Secondary students complete all the hours, subjects and legal requirements set by education regulations. On finishing the final year (4.º ESO), they obtain the official Spanish Secondary Education Certificate.

In addition, thanks to the IB framework, they gain a real advantage: they learn through inquiry-based learning and develop structured critical thinking.

The IB MYP covers the four years of ESO (ages 12 to 16). At its core, it teaches young people to think for themselves and make practical connections with the real world.

The core of the MYP in Secondary

  • 8 subject groups A balanced structure: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Design, and Physical and Health Education.
  • 6 global contexts Frameworks that anchor each lesson to a purpose, a challenge and a real-world problem today.
  • Approaches to Learning (ATL) Explicit teaching of thinking, communication, research, self-management and social skills.
* School officially authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

We actively work on the 10 attributes of the IB learner profile:

Inquirers Knowledgeable Thinkers Communicators Principled Open-minded Caring Risk-takers Balanced Reflective

“We were worried about the step up from Primary to Secondary, but at San Cristóbal the MYP has given our daughter an incredible ability to organise herself. She doesn’t study just to pass; she can explain how her subjects apply in practice.”

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions about the Middle Years Programme (MYP)

At what age can my child join the MYP?
The MYP starts in the first year of ESO, at age 12, and runs to the fourth year, at age 16. Students can join in any year of Secondary, always with a gradual welcome and settling-in process supported by our tutors and the Counselling Department.
Does the MYP replace the Spanish curriculum?
Not at all. Our school fully integrates the official curriculum of the Valencian Community into the demanding framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Students meet all legal requirements and obtain the official Spanish Secondary Education Certificate (Graduado en ESO).
What happens if my child changes school in the future?
Because students follow the national curriculum in full and obtain the official Spanish ESO certificate, your child’s record is fully compatible with any other school. The advantage is that they take with them reasoning, independent study and language skills above the average for their age.
Is the IB MYP harder than traditional ESO?
It is not necessarily “harder”, but it does more to build maturity. The challenge lies in developing independence, rigorous research and the ability to think and communicate, rather than short-term memorisation. Students find it far more motivating because they see real meaning in what they learn.
Does the MYP lead directly to the IB Diploma Programme?
Yes. By completing ESO within the IB continuum at San Cristóbal, students start the Baccalaureate with well-established habits, research skills (such as the Personal Project) and a clear understanding of assessment criteria. This makes the transition to the demanding Diploma Programme natural and successful.
How much does Secondary Education (MYP) cost at Colegio Internacional San Cristóbal?
Fees are those of a high-quality independent private school in Castellón, with specialist teachers, modern technology facilities and international accreditation. You can request detailed fees from our admissions team.
