What is the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP)?


Colegio San Cristóbal is authorised to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), aimed at students aged 3 to 12 who are given opportunities to grow and develop into supportive individuals who actively engage in lifelong learning. . Through its transdisciplinary, research-based framework, the PYP encourages students to think independently and take responsibility for their own learning while exploring local and global issues and opportunities in real-world contexts.

 

What do we want?

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) has a number of key objectives:

How do we achieve it?

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) achieves its objectives through a number of different approaches and strategies:

  • Transdisciplinary Curriculum Framework
    The PYP adopts an integrated curriculum framework that connects multiple disciplines, giving students the opportunity to explore concepts and topics from diverse perspectives. This fosters a deeper and more holistic understanding.

  • Research-based learning
    Students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate and discover things for themselves. This approach fosters curiosity and critical thinking.

  • IB Learner Community Profile
    The PYP focuses on cultivating specific attributes in students, including being inquisitive, knowledgeable, reflective, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, daring and balanced.

  • Continuous Assessment
    Assessment in the PYP does not just come down to performing in final exams; it is continuous and diverse, incorporating self-assessments, peer evaluations and continuous feedback.

    The IB provides professional development opportunities for teachers, ensuring they are fully equipped to effectively implement the PYP.
