International School in Castellón: global education from Early Years to Baccalaureate

At the San Cristóbal International School, we are committed to an international education that combines academic excellence, personalized attention, and a solid multilingual foundation from the very first years. We guide every student from Pre-school (Infantil) through to Baccalaureate (Bachillerato) in a safe, familiar, and innovative environment, with a focus on the world and their future.

We are a private international school in Castellón with more than five decades of history, managed by a family with a tradition in education that has successfully integrated local roots with an international vision. Our educational model is based on two pillars that position us as a benchmark institution in the Valencian Community: the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum (PYP, MYP and DP) across all educational stages, and the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, which allows our students in Higher Vocational Training Grado Superior to participate in mobility programs and educational experiences in other European countries. His makes San Cristóbal one of the most comprehensive educational institutions, well-prepared for the challenges of international education in Spain.

Quality Education in an International Environment

“International School”: A Family-Focused Education with an International Calling

At San Cristóbal, we combine the global vision of an "international school" with the essence of a family-focused Spanish school. Since 1970, our educational project has been characterized by closeness, respect, and trust, while the international dimension contributes innovation, open-mindedness, and the competencies needed for a multicultural world. Our classrooms welcome students from different backgrounds, which enriches daily life and turns the school environment into a space for real intercultural learning. Our purpose is to educate well-rounded, critical, and supportive individuals capable of reflecting on the world from multiple perspectives.

Bilingual and Plurilingual Model: English, Spanish, and Other Languages

Plurilingualism is one of the central axes of our international proposal. Our linguistic project integrates Spanish (Castellano) as the vehicular language, Valencian (Valenciano) as the language native to the surrounding region, and solid training in foreign languages: English, French, and German. Learning multiple languages improves attention, memory, cognitive flexibility, and problem-solving capacity, in addition to increasing academic and professional opportunities.

The Plurilingual Project at Colegio San Cristóbal includes:

  • Immersion in English from the earliest years with native and bilingual teachers.

  • Balanced development of oral and written skills.

  • Systematic and cross-curricular work in Valencian.

  • Progressive introduction of French and German.

  • Personalized itineraries based on pace, level, and interests.

Furthermore, we are an official preparation center for the ESOL examinations of the University of Cambridge (A1 Starters & Movers, A2 Key, B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced), achieving high pass rates year after year. This training is reinforced with immersion experiences such as English Week, British Week, and international summer programs in English-speaking countries.

Innovative Methodology for All Ages (Pre-school, Primary, Secondary...)

Our methodology combines the most advanced pedagogical models with the principles of neurodidactics and emotional education. Every student learns differently, which is why we apply active, creative, and collaborative strategies:

  • IB Inquiry: Students formulate questions, investigate, experiment, and construct meaningful knowledge.
  • Project-Based Learning and Cooperative Learning: Key for developing leadership, responsibility, and social skills.
  • Pedagogical and Responsible Use of Technology: Computer labs, digital devices, computational thinking, and innovation projects.
  • Formative and Continuous Assessment: Observation, self-assessment, and peer assessment for real progress.

In Pre-school (Infantil), the foundation is guided play, sensory exploration, and emotion. In Primary (Primaria) key competencies and study habits are consolidated. In Secondary (Secundaria), autonomy, critical thinking, and connection to the challenges of the modern world are fostered. All of this allows our students to develop into self-assured, reflective individuals prepared for the future.

The Value of Studying at an International School

Competencies for a Globalized World

Choosing an international school in Castellón like San Cristóbal means committing to an education that prepares students to live, study, and work in diverse contexts. Our students develop communication skills in several languages, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and sensitivity toward major global challenges. Coexisting with students from different backgrounds and participating in international projects strengthen their autonomy and help them acquire an open and adaptable mindset.

IB Programmes: Why We Choose Them

San Cristóbal is an IB World School in Castellón and is part of the International Baccalaureate Organization's global network of schools. We are one of the few centers that offers the complete IB continuum:

This model fosters a student profile with fundamental attributes: inquirer, knowledgeable, thinker, good communicator, principled, caring, open-minded, risk-taker, balanced, and reflective. The structure, based on Units of Inquiry or interdisciplinary units, connects areas of knowledge with real-world situations, promoting deep, active, and meaningful learning. The IB turns the student into the protagonist of their personal and academic development, preparing them for a high-level university transition.

University Preparation and International Possibilities

San Cristóbal offers two pathways in Baccalaureate: the IB Diploma Programme and the National Baccalaureate, both recognized and achieving high university admission rates. Young people develop key skills such as research, time management, project organization, and advanced communication, all highly valued by Spanish and international universities.

Our Erasmus Charter for Higher Education allows students in Higher Vocational Training (Grado Superior) to undertake educational mobilities, professional internships, and cultural experiences in other European Union countries, expanding their academic horizons and significantly improving their future employability.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Our International School

What are the requirements for enrollment in Pre-school/Primary/Secondary?

The admissions process is flexible and adapted to each stage. In Pre-school (Infantil), priority is given to the interview with families and progressive adaptation. In Primary and Secondary, the student's academic background is analyzed, and in some cases, level tests or assessments by the Guidance Department are carried out to ensure the best possible enrollment. We guide each family through all phases of the process.

Which language of instruction is used and when does it change?

From Pre-school (Infantil), work is done in both English and Spanish, naturally integrating the foreign language into daily routines and activities. As schooling progresses:

  • English is increasingly used as the main language of instruction in various subject areas.

  • Valencian takes on a relevant role as the language native to the region.

  • In upper grades, a third language is incorporated (French and/or German).

The objective is to educate plurilingual students capable of communicating, thinking, and learning in several languages with fluency and confidence.

How is the International Baccalaureate continuum coordinated?

We integrate the official Spanish curriculum with the International Baccalaureate approaches at all stages. In Pre-school, Primary, and ESO, the Spanish subject areas are articulated with the Units of Inquiry (PEP/PYP) and the MYP units (PAI). In the 4th year of ESO, students can choose between the IB Diploma Programme, the National Baccalaureate, or Vocational Training (Formación Profesional). Academic coordination ensures that the student meets all official requirements while developing the global competencies inherent to the IB.

Seamless Integration: Spanish Language Support

At Colegio San Cristóbal, we are proud to welcome students from all over the world. To ensure they feel at home and succeed from day one, we offer a comprehensive Spanish Support program (ELE).

Through small-group sessions and personalized monitoring, we help international students gain the fluency needed to integrate socially and excel academically, making their transition to Spain a positive and enriching experience.
